John Romero has released a mobile version of Dangerous Dave
The co-founder of id Software and designer of games such as Doom and Quake has released a mobile version of Dangerous Dave in the Deserted Pirate’s Hideout, a cult platformer released in 1990 on the DOS platform and Apple II.
The project offers both to play the original adapted for mobile devices, and its modern ruskin, which differs only in redrawn sprites, the presence of a couple of modern effects and some semblance of a plot, served with the help of notes scattered across the levels.
The game is distributed on a free basis. Dangerous Dave is monetized through advertising: lives in the game can be bought for watching videos. Plus, the game itself does not hesitate to start the video after losing. However, by paying two dollars, the player can get rid of it.
Will a remaster of the more famous Dangerous Dave in Haunted Mansion be created?
As Romero answered this question to Arthur Ostapenko, it all depends on how Dangerous Dave will show itself on the mobile market.
@arthurostapenko : I own the rights to that game as well. It may see a remake if the original Dave on iOS does well.
