Square Enix has released Final Fantasy XIII-2 in Japan on iOS and Android

The role-playing project Final Fantasy XIII-2, released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in December 2011, became available for Japanese users to play on mobile iOS and Android devices.

Plus, as we found out, back in the spring of this year, the islanders got the opportunity to play the original Final Fantasy XIII on their smartphones and tablets.

Moreover, both games look no worse, if not better, than the PC versions released a year earlier, but the distribution of both Final Fantasy XIII and its sequels weighs less than 23 MB.

How is this possible, given that we are talking about some of the most technologically advanced projects for seventh-generation consoles?

Everything is simple. Both titles are “cloud”. In other words, the picture is calculated not by a mobile device, but on the publisher’s server, from where it is then sent to the gadget.

Dilogia has exactly two problems.

Firstly, there is a constant lag. It was both relevant for OnLive, the pioneer of cloud gaming, five years ago, and for Square Enix, which is engaged in transferring Final Fantasy to the cloud, today.

Secondly, management. You can play, but it’s not very convenient to do it on touch devices.

In any case, the appearance of such powerful and relatively modern titles on mobile platforms – especially within the framework of the “cloud” format – seems to us an important event. Another question is whether this will turn into a standard?

Yes, the latest Apple TV immediately comes to mind here, which, they say, requires games weighing more than 200 MB to work through the cloud, but how it works (are there any lags, how much it is necessary to adapt the project to this) is not very clear yet. Plus, there, as far as we know, we are not talking about a full-fledged game stream from the server, namely, the constant loading of the necessary game content into the basic distribution (have you passed the first level? the game erases the first level and loads the second one).
