Gameloft has closed seven studios
Having ended the first half of the year with a loss of €16.1 million, the French company Gameloft has launched a cost-cutting program. As part of the program, the company disbanded seven internal studios.
The French explain the receipt of net income with a minus sign by the disappointing level of income from three games that were developed exclusively for Japanese and Chinese markets. In order to return to a positive net profit, they went to the reduction of those units that are unprofitable. Recall that the company has a total of 22 development studios (according to the official website at the time of publication, according to Wikipedia, there are 28 of them).
It is important to note that, despite the negative balance, Gameloft’s sales in the first half of 2015 turned out to be more than a year ago. In the six months of this year, they amounted to €127.4 million, which is 15% more than in 2014.
The total MAU of all the company’s projects reached 172 million, the total DAU – the mark of 21 million. By the way, the company had similar indicators at the end of 2014.
Gameloft’s most successful projects at the moment, according to the company itself, are games such as Dragon Mania Legends, Dungeon Hunter 5, Siegefall and March of Empires. It is curious that all of them were released this year. This suggests that the company has managed to update its database of hits. Last year, 90% of Gameloft’s earnings came from games released before 2014.
