China will surpass America in mobile gaming revenue
By the end of this year, the mobile games market in China will reach $5.5 billion and outgrow the US gaming market. These forecasts were shared by the analytical firm Niko Partners, which specializes in the Asian region.
The volume of the Chinese market in 2014 amounted to $3.3 billion. If the forecast of the analytical firm turns out to be correct, it will mean that China’s market has grown by 66% over the year.
In China, according to the company’s estimate, 420 million mobile gamers. This is many times more than in the USA. There were 165 million mobile players in 2015.
However, the numerical – and monetary – advantage of the country should not deceive developers. The ARPU of a Chinese user is $13.10. For comparison, the average income per user in the United States is $27.7. In addition, it is difficult to get to the Chinese market, experts at Niko Partners say. To do this, the developer will definitely need a contract with a local publishing house – which usually takes 30% of the revenue. In addition, the same percentage will be taken by the distributor for the distribution of the game.
It is more profitable for Western developers to implement projects in the West, Niko Partners concludes.
