Finnish startup Grand Cru will close the Supernauts project

The Supernauts game from the Finnish Grand Cru team will be removed from the App Store on September 1. By the end of 2015, it will be disconnected from the servers. This is reported by the resource Pocketgamer.biz with a link to information from the studio.

The reason for closing Supernauts is the lack of significant profit.

With games, this happens all the time. But Supernauts is different-or should have been different-from the rest. The game became known before it appeared in stores. The Grand Cru studio raised $16 million for it from a number of investors. And even before the release, she called it “the most ambitious iOS game of all time.”

In fact, the ambitions of the creators of the project could not be realized. The title, reminiscent of Minecraft in retrofuturistic scenery, was launched in the summer of 2014. In the first six days, it scored 1 million downloads, as the creators announced on Facebook. However, both the retention of users and the cash register of the project were not the highest.

After that, nothing was heard about Supernauts for almost a year – until today, when the closure of the game was announced.

Grand Cru has already announced that it will release a new project on iOS. This time the Finnish team promises that they will make the game just “great” (and not “the most excellent in the world”, for example).

We believe that the case of the Grand Cru is a story about how not to publicize the project. It’s normal to consider your game outstanding. But if you declare her the most ambitious (the best, talented, unusual, it is necessary to emphasize) in the world, then sooner or later you will have to show the relevant statistics.

Although, as a last resort, you can always stop communicating with reporters. Peter Molineux is an example of that.
