The European Union gave $3.9 million to developers
As part of the Creative Europe program, European developers received grants totaling $3.9 million (€3.4 million). This is reported by the Gamasutra resource with reference to the press release of Creative Europe representatives.
Among the developers who received grants are indie studios and large teams. So, CD Projekt Red, the company that created The Witcher 3, Creative Europe allocated $172 thousand to promote the project.
First of all, titles with a strong “plot component” receive money.
“In a world where the market is flooded with match-3, endless runners and all sorts of nonsense with an open world, it’s nice to know that there are organizations that still believe that a good story is important,” commented Kevin Beymers, the head of the Italic Pig studio, on the initiative.
Creative Europe is an initiative launched by the European Union in 2013 and adopted on January 1, 2014. The aim of the program is to support the EU cultural sector.
