Revolution Studio: We wouldn't have survived without Apple

The creator of the Broken Sword series, Revolution, celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Gamescom conference. The head of the studio, Charles Cecil, says: without Apple’s help, they would have closed long ago.

The studio worked with publishers and retailers, Cecil recalls, and did not pay for itself.

In order to stay afloat, I had to borrow money.

Revolution experienced its worst moments in 2006-2008. Publishers earned millions on studio titles, and the team itself had to borrow money to finish another project. Cecil says that it was a turning point: there was a feeling that there was nowhere to go.

Apple’s entry into the market saved the company from bankruptcy. The corporation contacted Revolution and offered her to do projects for iOS. Yabloko did not promise the studio any privileges, but assured that it would support its projects as best it could.

“Apple has been an amazing ally all this time, and I am very grateful, because if it hadn’t been for her, Revolution wouldn’t have survived,” Cecil concludes.
