Mobile games are the fastest growing segment of the Russian gaming industry
Mobile games in Russia in 2014 showed the highest growth rates among other segments of the gaming industry. Vedomosti writes about this with reference to a study by J’son & Partners Consulting.
The volume of the gaming market in Russia in 2014 amounted to $ 1.63 billion. Of these, mobile games accounted for 15.9%. In monetary terms, this is 23% more than last year.
The preferences of the audience of mobile games have changed, the authors of the study note. Attention from casual games has shifted towards midcore and hardcore.
Despite the fact that mobile shows the highest growth rates, the most profitable segment of the Russian gaming market remains MMO. They accounted for 38.8% of the total market volume. This is followed by browser and social games (18.4%) and PC games (14.5%). Console projects complete the chain with 12.3% of the total volume.

The growth rate of the Russian gaming industry decreased in 2014.
J’son & Partners Consulting experts attribute this to currency fluctuations. However, multiplayer games continue to actively involve players, they say.
The most popular MMOs belong to Wargaming companies, Mail.ru Group and Innova. It is impossible to draw conclusions about the financial dynamics of Innova and Wargaming companies – they do not publish reports.
Revenue Mail.ru Revenue from online multiplayer games in 2014 reached 8.4 billion rubles ($219 million), which is 26.4% more than in the previous year. In 2013, the company’s growth rates in this segment were higher and amounted to 40.6%. Head of the game direction Mail.ru Group Oleg Shpilchevsky attributes the slowdown in growth rates to a decrease in the number of high-profile premieres. This year, the situation may change, he believes, since the company launched the Skyforge project and began closed testing of Armored Warfare tank action.
