Jami Laes: The future of monetization is view-to-play

The former head of the Rovio gaming division, Jamie Laes, founded his own mobile gaming startup Futureplay Games. In future projects, the studio will rely not on the usual free-to-play model, but on view-to-play.

The view-to-play monetization model offers the user to view video ads instead of a transaction.

The founder of Futureplay Games, Jami Laes, is sure that this model is the future. It “naturally combines accessible gameplay and advertising monetization.” It is easier for users to accept this model, he believes.

“We believe in the view-to-play model for a simple reason – it is cheaper, faster and easier to watch ads than to make an IAP,” says Laes.

The former head of the Rovio gaming division is convinced that his studio will open “a new era in mobile games – take existing opportunities and create a completely new category of games.”

It is not yet known which genre or platform Futureplay Games will choose. Laes said that he would share details about the company and its future projects in the near future.

Alongside him in Futureplay Games will work Kai Auvinen, the former art director of Digital Chocolate, Mika Rahko, who worked for Rovio as an executive producer, as well as several other veterans of game development.

Recall that Jami Laes left Rovio earlier this year.
