Starbreeze Entertainment has introduced a subscription service for Payday 2 on Steam
To commemorate the 12th anniversary of the Payday franchise, Starbreeze has introduced a new subscription option for Payday 2 on Steam.

The announcement on September 24, 2025, detailed that this service provides access to all downloadable content for the game at a price of $4.99 per month or $19.99 for six months, with the option for cancellation at any time.
Gustav Nisser, serving as the head of commercial at Starbreeze Entertainment, expressed in the announcement that after over 10 years of content development for Payday 2, there is a desire to improve how players engage with the game by offering increased accessibility and affordability for both newcomers and returning players eager to try DLCs they have yet to explore.
He emphasized that current downloadable content can still be purchased individually, offering players a wider choice of how they wish to enjoy the game.
In a financial update, Starbreeze revealed its Q2 2025 interim report, showing a profit surge of 64% for the quarter, albeit still reporting a loss of SEK 25.4 million ($2.66 million).
While net sales for Payday 3 and Payday 2 decreased year-over-year for the quarter, they rose from January to June 2025. However, sales from third-party publishing declined, prompting CEO Adolf Kristjansson to comment on the substantial resources needed for third-party endeavors compared to the impact of core franchises.
Consequently, the company has decided to focus more on its internal projects and the Payday series. Kristjansson addressed the crowded nature of the gaming market, noting that breaking through requires specialization and a touch of serendipity. He highlighted the enduring allure of a strong franchise like Payday in capturing attention amidst market noise, acknowledging the significant investment required in terms of time and resources.
