In celebration of the 12th anniversary of Payday 2, Starbreeze has unveiled a new subscription model on Steam.

The announcement, made on September 24, 2025, details a subscription offering that allows gamers to access all downloadable content for Payday 2 at a monthly cost of $4.99, or $19.99 for a six-month plan, with the option to cancel at any time.

Gustav Nisser, Starbreeze Entertainment's head of commercial operations, stated, "Our goal is to provide more flexibility in how players experience Payday 2, given its extensive history of content."

Nisser added that the new subscription makes it easier and more affordable to enjoy Payday 2’s full content, whether you are a newcomer or returning to explore additional DLCs. Current DLCs will still be available for individual purchase, ensuring players have multiple options for enjoying the game.

In financial news, Starbreeze reported a 64% increase in profits during Q2 2025 despite a loss of SEK 25.4 million ($2.66 million). The six-month overview showed an increase in sales for both Payday 2 and its sequel, despite a quarterly drop in net sales.

The CEO, Adolf Kristjansson, noted that while third-party publishing posed challenges, emphasizing their core franchises like Payday continued to hold value.

Kristjansson emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on beloved franchises amidst a competitive gaming industry, noting that a reliable brand like Payday helps stand out in a crowded marketplace.
