As the launch of Duet Night Abyss approaches on October 28, Pan Studio has decided to eliminate all gacha mechanics from the game, which is offered as a free-to-play RPG.

Producer Deca Bear discussed this major change with Automaton, stating that past iterations for PC and mobile incorporated a "monetization model centered on character gacha." However, continuous negative feedback from beta testers led the team to completely remove both character and weapon gacha systems.

Bear elaborated, "Our examination of player data and feedback, along with in-game surveys, revealed persistent complaints. Despite numerous internal discussions, we understood that refining gacha and stamina systems wouldn't suffice to resolve the underlying dissatisfaction players experienced."

"Consequently, we returned to our core vision for Duet Night Abyss: an enjoyable, accessible game that doesn't impose on players. We aligned the project with this vision by eliminating gacha and stamina, creating a more streamlined and cohesive gameplay experience."

Bear acknowledged that while this decision might hinder "immediate monetization opportunities," he anticipates it will ultimately enhance "player retention, strengthen our reputation, and support a healthier, sustainable business model."

"From a managerial standpoint, our objective is to sustain the game long-term," he added. "Our monetization strategies are informed by both current trends and anticipated player desires over the next three to five years.

"Players' willingness to spend hinges on their perceived value of the product, so we're not solely pursuing quick profits. Instead, we're minimizing pay-to-win elements and coercive spending, focusing on enhancing player enjoyment."

Characters within the game will now be freely accessible and will "generally" remain available. Pan Studio aims to monetize Duet Night Abyss through the sale of cosmetics, animations, and accessories.
