Phoenix Labs has revealed that its RPG game Dauntless will terminate its online services on May 29, 2025, with no new content or updates post this date.

The announcement was made through social media and expanded upon in a statement on their Discord server, as covered by GamesRadar.

The company expressed the difficulty of this decision and acknowledged the considerable contribution of players, partners, and developers to the game's journey. "To our community, your passion, creativity, and dedication made Dauntless more than just a game – it became a shared world and place where friendships were forged,” the statement read.

They further noted, "We know there were times we didn't get it right, but we always strived to give you the best experience we could. We are thankful for your feedback, patience, and support over the years."

Since its release in September 2019, Dauntless expanded to consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2021.

The game's closure follows a significant workforce reduction at Phoenix Labs, where a large portion of the team was laid off.

Initially, the studio mentioned that the futures of both Dauntless and their life sim, Fae Farm, were still under consideration, promising to share "more details in the coming weeks."

Earlier layoffs began in 2023 when they reduced their staff by 9% in May, and subsequently 34 more employees were dismissed in December from various departments.

The following year, in May 2024, the studio went through another major layoff, releasing 140 employees after its acquisition by the blockchain platform Forte.
