Mass media: in China, they began to refuse registration of trademarks with the word "metaverse"

The Chinese authorities are strengthening control over metaverse projects. The SCMP business portal reports that recently “several” companies have failed to register trademarks containing the phrase “yuan yuzhou” (translated as “metaverse”).

The full list of companies is not disclosed. But it is known that it has Alibaba, Tencent, NetEase and Xiaohongshu.

It should be noted that by February, more than 16 thousand applications for trademarks related to the metaverse were filed in China. And at the beginning of the week, the Committee on the Metaverse was launched in China with the support of the state.
