Younger, engaged and actively paying gamers: A portrait of the audience of gaming metaverses
Analysts from Newzoo have compiled a portrait of gamers who play metaverse games. Such projects today include Roblox, Fortnite and Minecraft. Their audience is much younger than users of “traditional” titles and actively uses games for socialization.Fortnite
Note: To compile the report, Newzoo interviewed 5,521 gamers from the United States, Great Britain, France and Germany.
- The average age of the audience of metaverse projects is 27 years. These gamers are significantly younger than users who don’t play Fortnite, Roblox or Minecraft. Their average age is 38 years.38% of the audience of these three games are users aged 10-20 years.
- Another 36% are gamers aged 21-35 years. That is why the developers of metaverse titles promote them mainly for a children’s audience.At the same time, metaverse games attract mostly men, whose share among users is 59%.

More than half of the users of gaming metaverses use them for socialization.

On average, users of metaverse games spend two hours more time in them per month compared to the audience of other projects.

In the end, Newzoo notes that a new generation of gamers is playing more and more actively every year in the so—called “protometaverse” – projects that in the future may become the basis for more complex gaming metaverses.
However, it is unclear exactly what impact this phenomenon will have on the industry in the future.
