Microsoft has announced plans to create a metaverse. It will include the company's games and services
Microsoft has announced metaverse, a project based on its mixed reality Mesh platform. It is designed to work together in a virtual space and will be integrated into Teams. In the future, the company plans to add its own games to the metaverse. The Mesh for Teams project was presented at the Ignite conference, which took place on November 2.
With the new solution, users from all over the world will be able to interact with each other in a virtual environment, exchange documents from the Office suite and hold online meetings.
Mesh will allow you to create your own 3D avatars. At the same time, they can be used without a VR headset (more functions are available in the helmet). Microsoft customers will also be able to control the actions of virtual characters, and artificial intelligence will analyze their voice and create facial animations. With the help of Mesh, companies will be able to create virtual spaces and their own corporate metaverses for working and holding “immersive meetings”. It will be possible to use the new solution from Microsoft both in 2D and in VR/AR format.
The new features are expected to become available in the first half of 2022.
Microsoft also plans to integrate its own games into the metaverse. The CEO of the company Satya Nadella (Satya Nadella) said this in an interview with Bloomberg.
“If you take Halo, Minecraft and Flight Simulator, these are all metaverses. In a way, they all exist in 2D now, so the question is how to transfer them to the 3D world there. This is exactly what we plan to do,” Nadella said. However, it is still unclear exactly how the company plans to change its titles to integrate them into the metaverse.
Microsoft announced Mesh for Teams just a few days after Facebook’s rebranding. Recall that last week the company renamed itself Meta and announced plans to build its own metaverse.
