In the US, senators urged not to open access to the Meta universe to teenagers*
American Senators Edward Markey and Richard Blumenthal are concerned that Meta* is rumored to want to expand the audience of Horizon Worlds and let teenagers into its metaverse. They turned to Mark Zuckerberg and called for the plans to be immediately curtailed.
The company’s plans were announced in February by the T he Wall Street Journal, which got acquainted with the memo of the Meta* management. It wrote that now Horizon Worlds can only be used by adults, but in March Meta * is going to open access to an audience from 13 years old. Meta* itself has not publicly confirmed this information.
In their appeal, the senators pointed out that Meta* was repeatedly accused of security problems with its platforms. They believe that the company cares primarily about profits and is unlikely to do anything to protect teenagers.
*The organization’s activities are prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation.
