Avalanche Studio Group is set to handle the global publication, marketing, and distribution of games developed by Supermassive Games
Nordisk Games has unveiled a collaboration deal involving its branches, Avalanche Studios Group and Supermassive Games. This agreement allows Avalanche Studios to handle global publishing, marketing, and distribution for Supermassive’s creations, starting with the recent release, Directive 8020.
Under this partnership, both entities will support each other in operational areas such as finance and information technology, maintaining their creative autonomy while keeping control over their respective projects and plans.
"This initiative is aimed at fostering sustainable growth for our studios amidst industry changes, focusing on enabling teams to excel in their craft," stated Allan Mathson Hansen, CEO of Nordisk Film & Nordisk Games. "Combining our strengths facilitates resource allocation directly into game production and innovation. Avalanche’s publishing expertise and operational capability complement Supermassive’s exceptional storytelling," he elaborated.
Avalanche CEO Stefanía Halldórsdóttir noted the enduring enthusiasm of two million players for theHunter: Call of the Wild across nearly a decade, highlighting the efficacy of their publishing and live-service efforts. "Supermassive’s impressive 18-year tenure in delivering immersive horror experiences is commendable. By supporting them with publishing and operational capabilities, we anticipate expanding their audience worldwide," she mentioned.
In 2021, Nordisk Games acquired a 30% share in Supermassive Games, marking its ninth game company addition and its first venture into the UK market. Back in 2018, Nordisk's acquisition of Avalanche Studios was notably its largest, following a minority share investment in 2017 of over $10 million.
Both Avalanche Studios and Supermassive Games have faced workforce reductions recently. In August, Supermassive announced reductions affecting up to 75 employees, a recurring theme at its Guildford studio over three years. In addition, Avalanche announced the closure of its Liverpool studio in November 2025, resulting in 31 job terminations, alongside staffing cuts in Malmö and Stockholm.
