France to Strengthen Monitoring of Web3 Game Advertising

The French gambling regulator ANJ has announced the expansion of its cooperation with the agency responsible for monitoring advertising in the country. This will now also apply to games with monetizable digital items, including Web3 games with blockchain, NFTs, and crypto-assets.

As part of the renewed collaboration, the organizations aim to enhance information exchange about advertising campaigns conducted in France and continue to develop requirements for responsible gambling marketing.

Existing restrictions in the country will remain in place. Gambling operators are still prohibited from promoting gambling as a means to achieve financial stability. They are also not allowed to downplay the risks of gambling or use imagery in advertising that is appealing to minors.

Licensed operators are required to continue to annually coordinate their advertising strategies with ANJ. It is worth noting that during these checks, the regulator assesses the content of advertisements, the amount spent on promotion, the specifics of social media campaigns, sponsorships, and much more.
