In the Philippines, a proposal has been made to ban online gambling advertisements
The representative from Cebu Province's 3rd district, Karen Hope Garcia, has introduced a bill in the Philippine House of Representatives to ban advertising, promotions, and sponsorship of online gambling across the country.
The document was filed on August 26. If enacted, it would apply to television, radio, print, outdoor advertising, social media, websites, mobile applications, search and targeted advertising, mail, and even SMS.
The ban could encompass not only media promotions but also practices aimed at audience engagement: bonuses, free bets, referral codes, promotions through influencers, and cross-promotion of brands associated with online operators.
Violations could result in fines of up to 10 million pesos (around $160,000), revocation of licenses, and imprisonment for up to three years.
The bill does not prohibit regulated gambling: licensed casinos, lotteries, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office draws, horse racing, and licensed cockfighting would remain permitted.
For reference, according to the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, electronic and online gaming generated 201.12 billion pesos in gross revenue (3 billion dollars) in 2025.
