In the US Senate, a proposal was made to ban online sports betting advertisements for minors
U.S. Senators Katie Britt and Richard Blumenthal have prepared a bill entitled the Gaming Advertisement to Minors Enforcement Act — also known as the GAME Act. The politicians aim to use it to ban online targeting of sports betting advertisements to individuals under the age of 18.
The GAME Act stipulates monetary fines for online platforms promoting sports betting among minors. It is known that for at least repeated violations, the fine will be up to $100,000 for each ad shown.
If the bill is passed, the compliance with the rules will be monitored by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
The senators expressed concern over the growing popularity of betting among the youth. According to Blumenthal, bookmakers and prediction markets treat young Americans "like a goldmine," attempting to accustom them to gambling from an early age.
