CD Projekt has announced the remake of the first Witcher game, as the trend to reimagine popular franchises continues. The project is being built with Unreal Engine 5 by Polish studio Fool’s Theory.
What is known about The Witcher remake?
- CD Projekt made the announcement on October 26, sharing the first teaser image of the upcoming game.
- Polish studio Fool’s Theory is in charge of the remake, with it being in the early stages of development. Some CDPR veterans are said to be involved in the project.
- The game is rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, the engine the company intends to use for all of its next major titles.
- The Witcher remake has been already mentioned by CD Projekt under its codename Canis Majoris. In a presentation for investors, the company described it as a “single-player open-world RPG” and another standalone title in the franchise.
- CD Projekt will provide full creative supervision over the game, saying it wants to treat it with “utmost care and attention to detail.”
- “[The Witcher] was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then,” CD Projekt RED head Adam Badowski said. “Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger.”
- Other details about The Witcher remake remain undisclosed.
