Capcom cites lack of new major games as reason for nearly 50% drop in net sales
Capcom has released a new financial report for the three months ended June 30. Despite seeing a decline in both net sales and operating income, the company still expects to achieve its goal for the current fiscal year.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
- Capcom’s net sales were $184.6 million, which is down 47.9% year-over-year.
- The company reported operating income of $88.2 million, which is down 48.9% year-over-year.
- Net sales of Capcom’s Digital Contents unit (video games) fell 54.8% year-over-year to $145.31 million. Its operating income dropped by 48.7% to $91.76 million.
- Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak became one of the main revenue drivers during this quarter, selling 2 million units at launch. The original game, meanwhile, surpassed 10 million copies sold since its launch in March 2021.
- The company’s total quarterly sales reached 11.7 million units globally.
- Capcom noted that the main reason for the decline in revenue and operating income was the lack of a new major title released during the period.
- Last year, the company launched Resident Evil Village, which has already sold over 6 million copies to date.
- Despite the decline, Capcom hopes to reach its financial goals for the year ending March 31, 2023. The publisher expects its annual net sales and operating income to reach $878 million and $351 million, respectively.
