Epic Games raises $100 million for Ukraine from Fortnite revenue, collaborates with new charity
Epic Games has shared a new update on its charity initiative of donating the Fortnite proceeds to humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine. The company has raised $100 million in nine days.
The Fortnite maker shared a new update on March 29. It also added a new organization to the list of charities — World Central Kitchen, which provides meals in response to humanitarian and community crises across the globe.
Initially, the company has been collaborating with Direct Relief, Unicef, the United Nations World Food Programme, and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. These organizations are “providing emergency aid, including health support, food and clean water, essential supplies, legal aid, and shelter.”
Epic Games launched the humanitarian relief initiative on March 20, pledging to donate all the Fortnite revenue to the organizations mentioned above until April 3. Players bought different in-game items and cosmetics worth $36 million in the first 24 hours, bringing the sum to $50 million on March 22.
