Mobile action games saw 69% increase in player spending in 2021, thanks to Genshin Impact’s success

Sensor Tower has analyzed growth for different mobile genres in the US during 2021. Driven by Genshin Impact, action games saw the biggest increase in player spending with almost 69%.

Overall, action-adventure titles generated $966.8 in the US. miHoYo’s title was the highest-grossing game, reaching $418.3 million in player spending. The other games in top-3 were Marvel Contest of Champions and Dragon Ball Legends.

Puzzle games were the largest category by spending in 2021, generating $5.1 billion. It is followed by Casino ($4.8 billion) and Strategy ($4.3 billion).
