Paddle announces alternative to Apple’s payment system, promising more revenues for iOS devs

iOS users might soon get the first alternative payment solution that won’t be controlled by Apple. Revenue platform Paddle has announced its own system with lesser commission fees for devs.

Paddle will charge developers with 10% on transactions under $10 and only 5% on transactions over $10, according to TechCrunch. It is far less than Apple’s commission of 30%, which also drops to 15% for devs making under $1 million per year.

The new payment solution will let iOS users press a button within an app, which will be redirected to Paddle’s website. It will allow people to use various payment methods, including PayPal, Apple Pay, and credit cards.

Paddle’s tool will also provide developers with access to customer data and will allow devs to manage their own refunds. The company’s solution is expected to become available on December 7.

The news came in the wake of the court’s ruling in the Epic Games v. Apple lawsuit. It allows developers to include links to alternative payment solutions outside the App Store in their apps.

However, it is still up to Apple to interpret the court’s ruling, so the company might not allow platforms like Paddle to operate within its ecosystem in the end.
