Street Fighter hits 50 million units sold as SF6 attracts over 1 million players in three days
Street Fighter 6 is having a great launch both in terms of player reception and commercial success. Just a few days after its release, the game has already reached its first major sales milestone.
Capcom made the announcement on the official Japanese Street Fighter account on Twitter, thanking fans for their support. Here are the two main news:
- Street Fighter 6 has attracted over 1 million players in its first three days;
- The entire series has now sold over 50 million copies globally.
For comparison, it took Street Fighter V almost three months to sell 1.4 million units, which was below Capcom’s expectations. So the new game is already outpacing the previous installment in the series.
When it comes to total sales, Mortal Kombat is still the best-selling fighting franchise of all time, with 79 million copies sold in its 30-year history.

Launched on June 2, Street Fighter 6 received positive reviews from critics, with an average score on Metacritic ranging from 89 to 93 depending on the platform. It also currently has a 90% rating on Steam based on more than 5,000 user reviews.
Since it is hard to estimate the peak number of concurrent users (CCU) across all platforms, let’s see how Street Fighter 6 has performed on Valve’s store. According to SteamDB, the game peaked at 70,573 concurrent players, which is the best launch for any other game in franchise history.
Not only has SF6 already outperformed Street Fighter V (14.7k peak CCU), it also stands out from other popular fighting games on Steam. Dragon Ball FighterZ comes in second with 44.3k peak CCU, followed by Mortal Kombat 11 (35.1k CCU), Guilty Gear Strive (31.1k CCU), Tekken 7 (18.9k CCU), and Soulcalibur VI (14.6k CCU).
Of course, there are fighting titles with higher peak concurrent players — e.g. Multiversus, which has peaked at 153.4k CCU. But it is a free-to-play project, so it is not fair to compare it with premium releases. And For Honor, which may also be considered a fighting game, reached its peak CCU of 225.8k in August 2018, when it was temporarily free on Steam.
So Street Fighter 6 has a record launch in terms of concurrent players among any other major fighting franchise on Steam.
SF6 also debuted at #2 on the GfK UK boxed charts in the week ending June 3 (via GamesIndustry.biz). Although it couldn’t dethrone The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, most of its sales will likely come via digital channels.
Last month, Capcom president and CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto told Famitsu that the company expects to sell at least 10 million copies of Street Fighter 6. This is a pretty achievable goal, given the 1 million milestone reached shortly after launch.
