S.Korea's "Anti-Google law" targets Google, Apple commission dominance

Today, South Korea’s parliament is expected to approve the amendment of the Telecommunications Business Act, dubbed the “Anti-Google law.” The piece of legislation will allow mobile devs to bypass Google and Apple app stores by using independent payment systems.

If the bill is approved, it will be put to a final vote on Wednesday, Reuters reports. If passed, the amendment will become the first legislative framework by a major economy to limit Apple’s and Google’s dominance over payment systems.

For reference, in 2019, Google Play generated the revenue of almost 6 trillion won ($5.29 billion) in South Korea.
