Activision Blizzard update: Frances Townsend steps down from Activision Blizzard women’s network, Overwatch League sponsors suspend partnerships with company
Activision Blizzard chief compliance officer Frances Townsend resigned from the company’s women’s network, aka the ABK Employee Women’s Network. The resignation came on July 23, the same day Townsend penned an email to employees denying sexual harassment allegations made by DFEH as “truly meritless and irresponsible.”
The update came from The Washington Post. And Townsend’s resignation was something that current and former Activision Blizzard employees expressely demaned in the letter to the company’s leadership. However, Townsend still remains at the company as chief compliance officer. She no longer uses Twitter, though. After famously tweeting about the “problem with whistleblowing” on June 30, she deleted her account, something we discovered on August 3.
In related news, on August 6, Kellogg said it would no longer advertise Cheez-It or Pringles in Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch League. T-Mobile also suspended its sponsorship of the Overwatch League. Coca-Cola and State Farm are “reassessing” sponsorship partnerships with the Overwatch League.
