Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at Niko Partners, commented on the game’s success. He called it a “milestone for PC to mobile game adaptations,” saying that PUBG Mobile shows that core games can achieve scale on mobile.
“The accessibility of PUBG Mobile, due to being available on smartphones as a free-to-play title, has allowed the game to reach 12x more players than the original paid PC/Console version of the game,” Ahmad wrote.
PUBG Mobile became the highest-grossing mobile game in 2020, earning $2.6 billion. PUBG: New State, a futuristic sequel to the game, will be released on iOS and Android this year. The title is developed by PUBG Studio, which created the original version for PC and consoles.
