EA officially completes its $1.2 billion acquisition of Codemasters, not all fans like it
Codemasters officially joins Electronic Arts. The publisher confirmed that it has finally completed the $1.2 deal.
Electronic Arts shared the news on its official website. The company said that their goal now is to create a “powerhouse in racing entertainment” for gamers.
“This is the beginning of an exciting new era for racing games and content as we bring together the talented teams at Electronic Arts and Codemasters,” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson.
The deal was announced last year after EA outbid Take-Two in its desire to buy the UK game studio. Now the acquisition has been approved. Codemasters will remain independent in terms of operating and developing games.
Codemasters CEO Frank Sagnier hopes that the deal will help the teams to take their franchises to new heights and reach a new audience across the globe.
A lot of people were happy to see the news, excited for the new opportunities the deal may bring both to Codemasters and EA. However, some fans expressed skepticism, worrying that EA might “ruin” the studio (even though there’re no signs of it yet).
