Survival Valheim sells 1 million copies in just one week and becomes new Steam smash hit
Valheim is another dark horse that debuted on top of the Steam chart and sold 1 million copies. The Viking-themed survival game only needed one week to hit this milestone.
Iron Gate shared the news on its official Steam blog, thanking fans and everyone who played the game. As they jokingly noted, 1 million players are equivalent to “roughly 8,333 Viking-crammed longboats heading to their next conquest.”
Impressive numbers came just a few days after Valheim started to make buzz on Steam. The game had a peak of 160,000 concurrent players, while also attracting 127,000 peak viewers on Twitch. So now the developers are looking forward to fixing some major issues.
“We are currently hard at work addressing issues some of our players have reported to maximize the game experience for more vikings!” the studio wrote in the statement.
Valheim is the debut project from Swedish studio Iron Gate. The game was released in early access on February 2 to 96% of positive reviews from more than 20,000 people. Valheim lets users build houses and ships, as well as explore an open world based on Scandinavian mythology. The title also has a co-op mode for 10 players.
Iron Gate will focus on making new content as the studio plans to release a few major updates in 2021.
