Lucasfilm has decided to bring its Star Wars titles and games in other franchises under a single brand — Lucasfilm Games. This was the name of the company’s gaming division founded by George Lucas almost 40 years ago.

Lucasfilm announced the return of the brand via the official Star Wars website. Apparently, the changes will be minimal. The company has already clarified that it is not going to independently develop new games, but will continue to cooperate with partner studios such as, for example, Electronic Arts.

In fact, the only material consequence of the move is that the Lucasfilm Games logo will appear in future titles.

Lucasfilm Games was launched back in 1982. Eight years later, the studio underwent rebranding and became known as LucasArts. The “Golden Age” of the studio arrived with the new name (The Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, Star Wars: X-Wing).

In 2012, Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney. A year later, most of LucasArts was disbanded. The company kept a dozen people solely responsible for licensing. Disney has not been developing and publishing games since 2014. It only grants the right to use its franchises to third parties.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will probably be the first game to officially bear the Lucasfilm Games brand. The title will be released for consoles and PC this spring.
