Gameloft picks up storytelling games developer The Other Guys
Gameloft announced today that it has acquired The Other Guys, the studio behind interactive series app Linda Brown and interactive storytelling platform Journeys.
The Other Guys considers its games to be a mixture between a TV series and videogames. They feature episodic stories with big decision-making moments.
“The Other Guys create experiences that are very popular with the female casual audience,” Gameloft CEO Alexandre de Rochefort told GamesBeat. “We already have a great set of games that speak to that audience, but The Other Guys have an expert grasp of this narrative genre we haven’t worked in before.”
Since the studio was founded in 2012, its story-based apps have generated more than 37 million downloads. That’s from 2,300 episodes across 119 seasons. Currently, the company launches over 14 episodes weekly.
Following the deal, the team will stay the same and continue to be headed by its founders Nicolas Cuneo, Augusto Petrone, and Pablo Mayer. The company employs talent “coming directly from the TV industry.”
