China accuses Subway Surfers and other games of violating cybersecurity law
A branch of China’s Ministry of Public Security posted a notice that certain games violate privacy and cybersecurity laws. Among them are Subway Surfers, Plants vs. Zombies 2 and other popular titles.
The notice was spotted by Niko Partners’ Daniel Ahmad. The list includes games that:
- fail to ask permission to collect data;
- fail to indicate all the permissions that users would be agreeing to;
- fail to list the reason and scope of data collection;
- fail to provide ability to delete user info / account.
Other titles failing to meet these requirements include Peacekeeper Elite, Anipop and the Talking Tom series. The regulator asked the companies to fix these privacy issues and remind users to take precautions before using certain apps.
