Resident Evil live action series confirmed by Netflix

Netflix announced it’s working on a Resident Evil TV show.

The first season will include eight 1-hour episodes. Andrew Dabb, who’s known for his work on Supernatural, will serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner. Bronwen Hughes (The Walking Dead, The Journey Is the Destination) is slated to direct the first two episodes.

Dabb told Variety that the TV show will “tell a new chapter” in the Resident Evil story, which “will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before.”

The show will follow two timelines: In the first one, fourteen-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker move to New Raccoon City to discover that the town is more than it seems, while their father hiding something from them. In the second timeline, more than ten years later, less than fifteen million people survive against more than six billion monsters infected with the T-virus. Jade, now thirty, is one of the survivors.

Resident Evil became the latest video game to get a screen adaptation. After a huge success of Netflix’s The Witcher, more shows and films were announced based on games including FirewatchBeyond Good & Evil, Fallout, and The Last of Us.
