Unity acquired DeltaDNA mobile analytics service

Unity Technologies has announced its second major acquisition in a year. The authors of the engine absorbed the company DeltaDNA, which specializes in monitoring and analyzing mobile games.

The deal was officially announced today, September 20. The amount that was paid for the controlling stake of DeltaDNA is not specified.

There is also no information about the reasons for the merger. Unity claims that it took this step for the sake of its developer clients.

Unity has an obligation to developers — to provide an opportunity to succeed at any stage of the game's development. This is what motivated our purchase of DeltaDNA. It helps developers better understand their players, optimize games and increase revenue.

In the near future, “the solution to increase engagement from DeltaDNA will be integrated into the Unity Engine.” Thanks to this, users of the engine will be able to, among other things, “attract players to improve the gaming experience, increase retention and build a profitable business.”

DeltaDNA provides several solutions and services. Among them:

  • analytics — with its own dashboard, benchmarks, the ability to segment data and optimize user purchases;
  • live engine — helps to set up the sending of messages, push messages and emails, as well as arrange A/B testing (most likely, it was the engine that was meant as a “solution to increase engagement”, which will become part of Unity);
  • consulting — help with the evaluation of errors in games.

Under the terms of the deal, DeltaDNA will continue to operate as a separate organization. It will continue to support any developers. Even those that don’t use Unity.

For Unity Technologies, this is the second purchase in 2019. In January, the company acquired Vivox, the creator of voice chat for Fortnite and PUBG.
