In December 2016, gaming companies spent $85.8 million on television advertising
During the airtime of American television channels, gaming companies spent $85.8 million in the last month of 2016.
This is significantly less than they spent in November. Then the total budget was $101.8 million, – reports in the framework of a joint material with iSpot.TV edition VentureBeat.
Brands such as Xbox, PlayStation, Machine Zone, Nintendo and King spent the most on advertising. They accounted for three-quarters of the entire TV advertising market. Moreover, more than half of the market was “bitten off” by Microsoft and Sony consoles.
The video with the largest number of purchased impressions was the one in which Microsoft advertises the updated Xbox One S. The advertisement says that the console supports 4K streaming and HDR. The company spent about $7.1 million on its demonstration alone. The entire budget of the Xbox One campaign for the month was $31.4 million.
For comparison, the entire monthly budget for television advertising at Machine Zone was $6.2 million. Two-thirds of the amount fell on the screenings of the Heavy Artillery video, in which Arnold Schwarzenegger calls on Mobile Strike players to join his union.
