Online casinos might be banned in Brazil
The Brazilian government is preparing a provisional measure to introduce new restrictions for regulated betting operators. Sources from Focus Gaming News Brasil, close to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, reported that the document is expected to be submitted to the National Congress this week. Among the measures being discussed is a ban on online casinos.
Previously, the country's president had already expressed support for such a move.
Meanwhile, the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting within the Ministry of Finance is advocating for milder measures and suggests focusing on tackling illegal platforms. Sources also reference polls conducted by the Workers' Party, which indicate that about 75% of Brazilians oppose betting.
In parallel, a bill has been introduced to the Chamber of Deputies proposing a betting limit of 100 reais per day and 500 reais per week. It also calls for the creation of a national responsible gaming registry, the control of aggregate bets through CPF, and restrictions on betting advertising on television and social networks.
