Konami has taken legal action to find out the identities of those who stole the source code for Metal Gear Solid 2

In May, unknown individuals published the source code for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty online, more than 20 years after the game's release. Now, the company Konami wants to find the perpetrators and hold them accountable.

Konami filed a lawsuit in a California court requesting that the owners of the sites where the source codes were posted cooperate with them.

In the lawsuit, Konami stated that it contacted the sites shortly after the leak. The company issued demands for the removal of the materials and requested they provide "any data that might be useful for identifying the individuals responsible for uploading or otherwise distributing Konami's content." Although the site owners did indeed swiftly remove all contentious items from access, they have not shared any information with Konami.

According to the lawsuit, the leak contained not only the source codes for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty but also "non-public assets" and internal development materials. Among the information leaked online were details of an unreleased Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance port for the Nintendo Wii, various demos, the original E3 trailer, and much more.
