Sony Interactive Entertainment is being sued due to tariffs in the United States

Two American gamers have decided to sue Sony's gaming division. The plaintiffs claimed that the company received a "significant unforeseen revenue" due to tariffs imposed in 2025 by U.S. President Donald Trump.

In the lawsuit, the gamers stated that to offset the costs of the tariffs, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) initially raised the prices of PlayStation 5 consoles, thus passing the expenses onto consumers. However, the U.S. Supreme Court later ruled the tariffs unconstitutional. As a result, SIE could demand refunds of the overpaid amounts from the authorities but did not lower the prices or refund customers who purchased the consoles.

The plaintiffs admitted they were among those who bought a PlayStation 5 at the increased price. They are dissatisfied with this situation and are asking the court to require SIE to reimburse them for the overpayment.

The plaintiffs also want the court to allow all Americans who purchased a PlayStation 5 after August 1, 2025, to join the lawsuit.

Sony representatives did not comment on the lawsuit.

This is not the first such legal action in the U.S. Recall, a month ago, two other gamers filed a similar lawsuit against Nintendo, accusing it of unjust enrichment and trying to profit twice from the tariffs: by raising prices and by receiving compensation from the authorities.
