A developer has initiated legal action against a publisher after keeping Kickstarter backers in anticipation for more than two years for the pledged physical editions
Matthias Linda, the developer behind the RPG Chained Echoes, is taking legal action against publisher First Press Games due to their failure to deliver the promised physical editions to Kickstarter supporters.
Linda acknowledged that the lawsuit decision was challenging and only arrived at after thorough deliberation, confirming to backers in a Kickstarter update that they are indeed moving forward with the legal proceedings.
The developer explained that over two years have passed since First Press Games was to have released the physical copies, yet as of 2026, only the standard PlayStation 4 edition has been distributed. This situation prompted Linda to terminate the relationship with the publisher and initiate legal steps. Linda clarified that they could not provide more details due to legal constraints.
Linda's current goal is to either collaborate with a different publisher to fulfill the Kickstarter backers' expectations regarding the physical editions or to provide refunds to those who supported the project in 2019.
"For those opting for the new publisher, some delay may occur," Linda stated. "Manufacturing new editions will likely be on hold until the legal issues are resolved, though refund requests can be processed at any time."
Concluding the message, Linda expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the extended delays and lack of concrete updates, extending apologies to those affected.
GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to First Press Games for their response and will provide updates upon receiving any feedback.
