Outersloth announces its agreement for funding game development with developers
Outersloth, affiliated with Among Us creator and publisher Innersloth, has unveiled its typical contract agreement with independent game developers.
According to a detailed post on its website, which came shortly after their presentation at the Game Developers Conference, Outersloth has disclosed its funding contract. Game Developer notes that Outersloth retains 50% of revenue until the initial investment is recuperated, afterwards retaining 15%.
The organization sometimes finances a game for specific platforms but enters agreements for all platforms. They reason that developers only expand to consoles when funding is platform-specific. Outersloth asserts its role in enabling the creation of these games justifies their share in future dealings, as highlighted at their GDC presentation.
Since 2022, Outersloth has allocated $19,161,040 across 24 projects, boasting a signing rate of 1.4%, which surpasses the industry norm.
On its website, communications director Victoria Tran and CEO Forest Willard expressed the company's intent to "promote" more developer-friendly contract terms among peers, which influenced their decision to share their agreement publicly.
They stated, "The current norms stem from accessible information, and we hope contributing our contract sparks future dialogues."
"We value transparency and hope you find our disclosures insightful."

Outersloth made its formal debut in June 2024, after Among Us gained massive traction, though Victoria Tran mentioned to GamesIndustry.biz that it has been an open secret since 2022.
Outersloth emphasizes that it is not a publisher and does not intend to obtain ownership of developers' intellectual properties. Moreover, additional funding was secured in October 2024.
In an industry typically veiled in secrecy, Outersloth's transparency with its contract is quite unusual. GamesIndustry.biz points out a comparable instance occurred in 2021 when Raw Fury shared its publishing terms; detailed analysis by Simon Carless at GameDiscoverCo is available.
