A lawsuit filed by a former Bungie director against Bungie and Sony has been dismissed due to "lack of jurisdiction" concerning monetary damages

Chris Barratt, a former director at Bungie, had his legal action against Bungie and Sony dropped.

The lawsuit, filed by Barratt in December 2024, accused the companies of damaging his reputation by allegedly suggesting he was involved in sexual misconduct without evidence. Barratt claimed this was a ploy to avoid giving him a $45 million payment.

That year, Bungie reportedly terminated Barratt after an internal review regarding alleged misconduct towards female coworkers. Barratt's legal team contended that the accusations were unfounded and that the companies aimed to distract from their operational setbacks.

According to The Game Post, Delaware's Court of Chancery dismissed the case citing a "lack of jurisdiction" over financial damages. The court highlighted its authority is restricted to cases with certain equitable or statutory bases, which this case didn't meet.

On October 13, 2025, a directive was given to explain why the case should retain jurisdiction. While only the defendants defended the jurisdiction, Barratt expressed willingness to move the case to the Superior Court.

The legal documents specified that the court's rules necessitate dismissing cases lacking appropriate jurisdiction, indicating Barratt's potential next step of directing the case to Delaware's Superior Court.
