U.S. authorities fined Jam City $1.4 million
A fine was issued for violating the CCPA — California's data privacy law.

According to California Attorney General Rob Bonta, Jam City collected and sold users' personal information in its games. While this is not prohibited, the company was required to first give Californian gamers the option to opt out of the data sharing, which was missing in any of Jam City's titles. The situation was exacerbated by the fact that the company shared data of gamers under 16 with third parties "without explicit consent," which is a clear violation of the CCPA.
Jam City has already agreed not only to pay the fine but also to change its policy regarding user data handling.
Jam City is a major publisher and developer of mobile games. Its portfolio includes titles like Cookie Jam, Panda Pop, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, Disney Magic Match 3D, and Disney Frozen Adventures.
