The Restored Content DLC for Star Wars KOTOR 2 has been canceled because Aspyr was unable to provide Disney with a full list of legal names of all the modders involved.
Aspyr has confirmed that the anticipated Restored Content DLC for the Nintendo Switch version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 was not released due to the inability to provide Disney with a comprehensive list of full legal names of the modders involved.
According to Game File, the goal was to integrate the Restored Content DLC from a PC mod constructed by volunteer modders when the game launched in June 2022. Disney initially approved Aspyr's collaboration with the modding community on the condition that all necessary rights were secured.
When this content did not accompany the game's launch, Aspyr initially reassured players that it would arrive "soon." However, in June 2023, it was officially announced that the DLC would not be released, sparking significant dissatisfaction among players and resulting in Aspyr facing accusations of false advertising.
The reason for the DLC's cancellation came to light during a legal process, revealing that Disney required the use of actual names instead of online aliases for crediting purposes.
Despite discussions with the modding community, Aspyr was unable to get approval from all 22 modders involved, a requirement from Lucasfilm to proceed with the project.
An Aspyr executive communicated to the modding team that attempts to credit all contributors caused concern within Disney's legal team, leading to additional barriers.
Soon after, Aspyr informed fans that the project would not proceed due to objections from an external party, believed to be Disney or Lucasfilm's legal representatives.
It was later reported that an out-of-court settlement was reached last month among lawyers representing the gamers, Aspyr, and Lucasfilm Games.
