Cygames and Konami have reached a settlement regarding the patent lawsuit concerning "Umamusume: Pretty Derby"
The legal conflict between Cygames and Konami Digital Entertainment over the game Umamusume: Pretty Derby has been resolved.
In 2023, Konami initiated a copyright case against Cygames, alleging that Umamusume: Pretty Derby violated 18 of its patents. The lawsuit demanded Cygames halt the game's production and distribution, seeking $26 million (¥4 billion) in compensation.
Cygames countered by seeking trials to nullify all 18 patents, maintaining that "no patent infringement had occurred."
According to IGN, CyberAgent, Cygames' parent company, released a statement explaining the decision to settle was made to quickly resolve the issue, allowing users to continue enjoying the game without worry.
The statement emphasized respect for the creative contributions of game industry companies, including Konami, and highlighted a commitment to the ongoing advancement of the gaming sector through this agreement.
The specific details of the settlement remain undisclosed due to "confidentiality obligations."
