The French voice actress for Lara Croft accused Aspyr Media of imitating her voice using AI

Françoise Cadol, who voiced Lara Croft in the French localization of the original Tomb Raider games, has filed a legal complaint against Aspyr Media. She claims that the company used artificial intelligence to recreate her voice in Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered.

Now the actress wants Aspyr Media to withdraw the remastered collection from sale and disclose to her the number of copies sold so far.

In an interview with Le Parisien, Cadol confessed that she learned about the imitation of her voice from gamers. Videos comparing the voiceovers of the original titles and the remastered versions emerged online, with Cadol’s lines in Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered being spoken in a voice that was very similar but had robotic notes. The actress believes that by resorting to AI, Aspyr Media insulted not just her, but the entire gaming community.

Aspyr Media has yet to comment on the situation with Cadol.

Recently, a similar accusation was made against Aspyr Media by Brazilian voice actress Lene Bastos. The company apologized and stated that they were unaware of the incident. According to them, an AI rendition of Bastos' voice was added by one of their partners, and Aspyr Media intends to remove it from the collection in the coming weeks. It is likely they will do the same with Cadol's AI voice.
