In Japan, they will start giving in-game currency for Monster Strike and Kotodama as a reward for paying taxes

The authorities in Tokyo's Shibuya ward have initiated an unusual tax campaign. They announced that residents of Japan could receive a tax deduction in the form of in-game currency if they allocate part of their taxes to the ward's budget.

In-game currency for Monster Strike can now be received as a tax deduction in Shibuya

The currency will be provided for two popular mobile games in the country — Monster Strike and Kotodaman. According to the authorities, the greater the amount of taxes, the larger the reward will be.

As the Automaton Media portal adds, the campaign in Shibuya is part of a government program called Furusato Nozei (ふるさと納税), which has been in effect in Japan for many years. Within its framework, Japanese citizens choose a specific locality that will collect a portion of their income tax and, in return, give "gifts" — usually locally produced products and goods. It is expected that this way, residents of the country can support prefectures they like.

How long the campaign will last is unknown. Journalists at Automaton Media do not rule out that Shibuya’s authorities are merely experimenting for now. Additionally, their project might not appeal to the country's government. Earlier, it banned giving certain gift certificates within Furusato Nozei because they could be resold for cash, thereby essentially evading the actual payment of taxes.
