Sony has filed a lawsuit against Tencent for plagiarizing the Horizon series
The Sony Corporation has filed a lawsuit against Tencent, accusing the Chinese giant of copyright infringement. Sony argues that the survival game Light of Motiram, created by Tencent's subsidiary team, is an outright copy of the Horizon series games.

Sony pointed out that the games have too much in common. Both are set in a post-apocalyptic future where the world is overrun by animal-like robots, and humanity has reverted to a primitive state. In addition, the games share a similar visual style. Even their fonts are nearly identical.

According to Sony, the Chinese developers knew exactly what they were doing. In the lawsuit, Sony detailed that at the beginning of 2024, Tencent proposed a collaboration with its subsidiary Aurora Studios to work on a joint project within the Horizon universe. The corporation declined. Later, Sony discovered that Light of Motiram had been in production for a year by that time. After the public announcement of the title, Sony approached Tencent to cease the infringement, but they couldn't reach an amicable agreement.

It should be noted that the official creator of Light of Motiram is listed as Polaris Quest. Sony is convinced that this name conceals either Aurora Studios or another Tencent subsidiary.
Sony wants the court to prohibit the distribution of Light of Motiram and compel Tencent to pay $150,000 in compensation for each act of copyright infringement in the game.
